The Association of Professional Piano Instructors (APPI) is a non-profit organization that enables piano instructors of all levels and abilities to network with others to energize and enhance the art of teaching piano.
APPI Teachers meet from 11:00am - 12:30pm on the second Friday of the month, September - May.

Monthly Meeting, Friday, February 13, 2026
11:00am - 12:30pm

Title:
 Score the Score!
Presenter: Jim Lansing

Description: It’s 8-10 minutes that moves at breakneck speed. Your heart rate pulses; your hands are sweaty. How will you get through this?  Oh, and the student is a bit nervous, too!  Adjudicating Piano Festival can be daunting. Completing that critique at breakneck speed requires some preparation and strategy, just like preparing to play the piece you need to judge. This session will introduce some approaches to quickly decide what to write on the judges' sheet. Jim will cover approaches for elementary, intermediate, and advanced players along with some “don’t write ’this,’ write THAT”.

Why Join APPI?

"APPI's monthly meetings are a wonderful resource for independent piano teachers to ask questions, share ideas and be inspired.  I am grateful for fellow teachers who generously share their wisdom in a supportive and positive atmosphere." - Kristi McNellis, NCTM
